When we visited Amsterdam with the kid we were invited as a family to stay at the Hotel Pulitzer.
The hotel is set within twenty-five restored 17th and 18th century houses along the canal, which were once “home to the decadent and flamboyant lives of Dutch aristocrats” and trade merchants. Along the canal is Anne Frank’s House, colourful flower markets, the picturesque Nine Streets for shopping, the Van Gogh Museum and the Royal Palace. So we couldn’t believe our luck when our family were asked to visit and experience Amsterdam. Hotel Pulitzer is perfectly located to walk everywhere or cycle, which everyone does in Amsterdam. We walked everyday whilst we stayed and the only time we were not using our feet was when we boarded the hotel’s boat ‘The Tourist’ for a 75 minute boat tour through the tunnels and along the canals of Amsterdam.
Hotel Pulitzer is in the middle of everything you want to see when visiting the Dutch capital, it is luxurious, historic and every effort has been made to keep as many of the original features as possible, whilst still being contemporary and comfortable for its guests. It is honestly a hotel we would’ve picked for ourselves before bambino, but we could never of dreamt that they would let our little mate come too. To our surprise – the Dutch love kids. In Amsterdam kids are just part of the adventure. We never heard any tuts or saw any eye rolls. I can’t go to a cafe round the corner from my house, without witnessing someone being slightly put out by the kid and his proximity to them. This made our holiday feel like a holiday. It was a proper break. It was lovely.
Also available is the Pulitzer Bar, think Mad Men meets Peaky Blinders. No Thomas Shelby or Don Draper (I checked), but oh so dark and decadent. We were gutted not to try this bar out, but with the kid being tee-total it seemed only right. Gorgeous none the less. Alternatively there was also Pause at Pulitzer, which offered everything from small plates to sandwiches and the yummiest pesto pasta the kid has ever tasted. Pause has tables both inside and outside in a beautiful courtyard, where there are giant swing chairs and large wooden rocking horses so the kids are entertained.
When in Amsterdam….
If you are visiting the Dutch capital and are stuck on ideas on where is the best place to stay with child, I cannot recommend Hotel Pulitzer enough. It is the perfect mix of luxe travel with kid. The entire family was very welcome in the city and the hotel and we felt rested after our 48 hour trip, which is unheard of when you #havekidwilltravel
